What is the Four-Way Test?

Adopted by Rotary in 1943, The Four-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. The twenty four word test remains today a central part of the permanent Rotary structure throughout the world, and is held as the standard by which all behavior should be measured. The test can be applied to almost any aspect of life. The Four-Way Test:

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Why are Rotary and Toastmasters working together?

Toastmasters and Rotary want to offer the best membership experience possible. There is much excitement about leveraging unique and similar strengths. A collaboration between our organizations can provide Toastmasters the opportunity to apply public-speaking and communication skills, make new connections, and possibly give back to your communities through a vast array of service projects.

In turn, Rotary members will have more opportunities for personal and professional growth to improve their leadership and communication skills.

How is Rotary organized?

Rotary is organized at club, district, and international levels to carry out its program of service. Rotarians are members of their clubs, and the clubs are members of the global association known as Rotary International. Each club elects its own officers and enjoys considerable autonomy within the framework of the standard constitution and the constitution and bylaws of Rotary International. Clubs are grouped into 530 Rotary districts, each led by a district governor who is an officer of Rotary International and represents the RI board of directors in the field. Though selected by the clubs of the district, a governor is elected by all of the clubs worldwide meeting in the RI Convention.

Does Rotary work with other organizations?

Throughout its history, Rotary International has collaborated with many civic and humanitarian organizations as well as government agencies in its efforts to improve the human condition. An excellent example of what these partnerships can accomplish can be found in Rotary’s ambitious PolioPlus program. Launched in 1985 in concert with the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and UNICEF, Rotary’s goal is to immunize every child in the world against polio by the year 2005. Rotary brought to the effort millions of volunteers to assist in vaccine delivery, social mobilization, and logistical help at the local, national, regional, and international levels.
